One Book One Community Virtual Book Discussion

Monroe – Airport – Bedford

As part of the annual One Book One Community month of reading, Monroe High School, Airport High School, and Bedford High School students will join in a virtual book discussion on March 21st.

We are excited that Susan Pfeffer, the author of Life as We Knew It, will be virtually joining us as we discuss her book.  Ms. Pfeffer, who lives in New York, is a popular author of young adult novels.  This story begins when an asteroid knocks the moon closer to Earth, like "one marble hits another." The results are worldwide tsunamis that wipe out the coasts, earthquakes that shake the continents, and volcanic ash that blocks the sun. Miranda, a high school sophomore, and her family must learn to survive without the conveniences and technology they have depended on.  Susan Beth Pfeffer has also written three companion novels to Life As We Knew It, including The Dead and the Gone, This World We Live In, and The Shade of the Moon.

Our students will be able to ask the author questions as well as discuss themes central to the novel such as survival in times of crisis, decision-making, and the role of technology in our lives.

The Virtual Discussion is being coordinated by the Monroe County Intermediate School using the Interactive Virtual Network (IVN) that connects county high school for shared instruction. We will begin at 10:30 – 12:00 followed by a pizza lunch with beverages and dessert.

Plans have been coordinated by librarians Lisa Brakel, Mary Bullard and Lynne McHale.  Matthew Prange, Director of Instructional Technology, Monroe County Intermediate Schools is managing to connect our schools and author.  Kerry Giuliano, Instructional Technology Specialist MCISD will be assisting at Airport High School.

Success!
