Becoming a member of National Honor Society:

  • If you were inducted into NHS at another high school and transfer to Monroe High School, you are automatically a member of our chapter and will need to abide by our bylaws.  However, if you were a member of NJHS during your time in middle school, you are NOT automatically a member of NHS.

  • If you are not currently a member, you must have completed ninth grade before being considered for membership.

  • In November of each school year, letters are mailed home to students who are eligible to pursue membership in NHS.  Eligibility is determined based on a combination of academics (a minimum 3.400 cumulative grade point average at the end of the previous school year) and conduct (there can be no major issues with discipline during the student's high school years).

You will receive a letter each year you are eligible unless you have already become a member of NHS.  So, even if you received a letter in the past and did not pursue membership, it is still an option during your junior or senior years.

  • The letter will direct students interested in pursuing membership to acquire a candidate packet from the advisor (outside classroom hours) during a specific time period (usually the week after Thanksgiving break).

  • The student will then need to complete the candidate packet and submit it to the advisor by the deadline listed in the packet (usually before winter break).

If there are any other questions about National Honor Society, you are always welcome to ask Mr. Steele.
