Monroe High School

Career Cruising is used by Monroe High School as a tool in engaging and inspiring our students to achieve their full potential in school, careers, and life. Career Cruising innovations are based on the premise that everyone has a dream for their future. Career Cruising's mission, as well as Monroe High School's, is to inform these dreams and bring them to life. Career Cruising incorporates six core elements for engagement:

1. One Click Easy: Innovative tools do not require hand holding or training to use. Students are able to dive right in with the intuitive interface and one-step clicks.

2. Real World Touchpoints: Students are more motivated when they know that what they are studying matters in the real world.

3. Personal Pathways: Every student is unique with his or her own dreams and goals for their future, which is why each deserves a pathway based on his or her interests and abilities.

4. Exploration and Discovery: Superior personal assessment and career matching tools help students learn more about their own interests and identify careers that fit.

5. Living Portfolios: Students are dynamic and so are the tools Career Cruising offers. The Living Portfolio is an Individual Learning Plan that grows with each student. It is where they store and share what they are doing, with teachers, counselors, parents, and friends. It is how students connect with those around them.

6. Course Charting Tools: Career Cruising makes it easy to turn planning into action. It helps students connect their exploration and self-discovery to their course schedules and post-secondary plans, while integrating all of it with Monroe High School's student information system. Monroe High School's students use Career Cruising to schedule their classes with the assistance of MHS's Support Services Coordinators: Mrs. Warnke and Mr. Hochradel.

Career Cruising and MHS are successful when students are engaged enough to stick with their exploration: to uncover their strengths, identify career paths, and follow the steps to get to their desired outcome. Students are, after all, human. Technology such as Career Cruising is simply the tool that Monroe High School uses to get them to where they want to be. Career Cruising, behind the scenes, is a technology that incorporates thought leaders that constantly take a pulse on the world of career development to ensure that students have the most comprehensive tools and up-to-date information to help them succeed.

As required by state law, all Monroe High School students must update their Educational Development Plans (EDP's) yearly. The Post Secondary planners at MHS work with all students during Math classes each trimester to assist them and to ensure that they are updating their EDP's. There is specific criteria within the EDP that needs to be fulfilled for each grade level, as this EDP should be growing and becoming more mature, mimicking student growth as they progress through their high school years.

The specific criteria required for each grade level are listed below. If you have any questions about Career Cruising or student EDP's, please contact Monroe High School's Post Secondary Planning Office.
