Workforce Development:
Career Counseling
Career counseling is provided to each Turning Point student by a licensed Monroe County Community College counselor, either at the Learning Bank or on MCCC's campus. Students obtain valuable information on career opportunities in any area.
Manufacturing Boot Camp
The Learning Bank partners with MCCC to provide Turning Point students the opportunity to experience classes preparing them for the field of manufacturing. Selected students attend MCCC classes in Welding Robotics, CNC, Electronics and CAD. Soft Skills are taught by Michigan Works! and MCCC Staff. Employers are engaged to help students reach employment and career goals. Students that complete their GED may receive the opportunity to be certified for future employment opportunities.
Michigan Works! Workshops
Michigan Works! partners with the Learning Bank to provide to workshops on 'Resume Writing and Interview Skills', "Attitude - Keeping a Positive Attitude in the work place and how it contributes to retention and promotion", and "Self Esteem another important factor to achieve socio-economic success.
Financial Literacy
Students can earn a Financial Literacy Certificate by attending a series of five MBTeach classes for five consecutive weeks. Classes are taught by Monroe Bank and Trust representatives and include important life kills such as budgeting, checking account management, and buying a home.
Mentoring Information and Forms
Mentoring is available to all Learning Bank Turning Point students, at either the Learning Bank or at Monroe County Community College's main campus. Mentoring is provided by program alumni, Monroe County Community College students, and other partnering community organizations and members. Mentoring provides the opportunity for mentors to develop leadership skills, enhance their communication skills, give back to their local community, strengthen their cover letter and resume, and leave a lasting positive impact on the life of a mentee.
Currently we are seeking individuals who are interested in mentoring students who are currently working on their GED at the Monroe Learning Bank, and students who are dual enrolled in in both the Turning Point Program and MCCC.
Please fill out the Google Form by clicking the link below if you are interested in becoming a Mentor, or download, print, and complete the “Mentor Application and Interest Survey”. Hard copies of the completed forms should be taken to the Admissions Office at Monroe County Community College, and placed in the Turning Point Program mailbox, or taken to the Monroe Learning Bank.
