Waterloo Elementary School

My name is Meghan Gibson and it is with great excitement that I introduce myself to you as the principal of Waterloo!  I am entering my fourteenth year with Monroe Public Schools and my third year as principal at Waterloo.  Previously, I have worked as a classroom teacher and a School Improvement Coach in Young Fives through 8th grade.  Waterloo is a great place to learn and grow and is filled with wonderful students and staff.  I am excited to see where this year takes us!  I would love the chance to meet and talk with all of you.  Please stop in to introduce yourself and say hello.

This year, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) will again be an integral part of our School Improvement work and is an innovative, in-tegrated approach that empowers students to be leaders and learners in the 21st century. Our district will monitor, evaluate and support the implementation of our School Improvement plan.

Students in grades 4 –6 will continue to have access to an individually assigned Chromebook 24:7.

As a Title 1 School, Waterloo students will continue to have access to Extended Day Learning opportunities as well as a daily Intervention and/or Enrichment block. With a STEAM focus, our students will develop a strong academic foundation, along with the important 21st  century skills they need to succeed in school and be college, career and citizenship ready. In the classroom, students will be encouraged to ask good questions and indulge their curiosity to acquire the inquiry skills needed to solve tomorrow’s challenges. Technology usage that invites creativity, such as the robotics class your child will experience at Waterloo, will provide an outlet for children to think critically and collaborate with others.

We are asking all of our school families to join us in supporting our STEAM learning. You are your child’s first and most important teacher. When schools and families work together in ways that improve student learning children do better in school, stay in school longer be-yond high school and enjoy learning. The earlier in a child’s educational career that parents become actively involved in their child’s learning, the more powerful the positive effects. Our goal is to build partnerships that engage you in your child’s education, respond to your concerns, honor your contributions and cele-brate your child’s unique accomplishments.

Together, the staff at Waterloo strive to provide the best possible educational experience for your children.  The S.T.E.A.M initiatives at Waterloo continue to grow and evolve.  Our teachers are working hard to create classroom lessons that are meaningful and authentic for students.  We have a phenomenal staff that truly care for your children and are dedicated to supporting them as they grow and learn.
