Dear Monroe Public Schools Family,

In Monroe Public Schools, everything we do, from curriculum and technology advancements to updates in maintenance and infrastructure, is aimed at supporting our students to achieve their fullest potential. For this reason, we informed you of our proactive and voluntary water testing earlier this year. We will always keep health and safety as our highest priority.

Following this spring announcement, the Monroe Public Schools Department of Operations proactively commissioned 213 total tests of consumable water sources in 13 buildings district-wide to ensure that all of our students and staff were only in contact with water that is healthy and safe. Consumable water sources include drinking fountain and faucets. Water sampling and analysis was performed in partnership with the City of Monroe Water Department and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ). The guidance that we received through this partnership was invaluable.

The MDEQ’s water quality standards require that action be taken for any water outlet with levels of lead at or above 15 parts per billion (ppb) and levels of copper at or above 1,300 ppb. Out of the 213 water sources tested, four required corrective action. This was executed immediately, and upon retesting, all 213 sources are now in compliance with MDEQ standards.

As with all of the services our district provides to the community, we pride ourselves in being forward-thinking, energetic, and transparent in our pursuit toward excellence. Thank you for your ongoing support.  Monroe Public Schools is stronger because you are a part of it.   Feel free to contact me through email at everly@monroe.k12.mi.us or by phone at 734-265-3000. Together, we will embrace questions, address issues, and engage in conversations to make Monroe the best it can be every single day.

Believe.  Engage.  Excel.

As always,
